Botox:

Q: What is Botox Cosmetic treatment?

A. It is a simple, non-surgical procedure that relaxes the muscles that form the deep persistent lines that have developed over time between your brows, on your forehead or in the corners of your eyes.

Q: What is Botox Cosmetic?

A. Botox Cosmetic is a purified protein derived from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause the frown lines between the brows to form over time.

Q: How is it applied?

A. One thirty-minute treatment - a few tiny injections - relaxes the muscles that cause those deep, persistent lines to form and keeps them relaxed up to four months.

Q: When will I start to see results?

A. You should begin to see a significant improvement within 5-7 days, and full effect in two weeks.

Q: Is there any discomfort?

A. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. The entire procedure is typically 10-15 minutes, and most people return directly to work or normal activity following Botox Cosmetic treatment.

Q: How long does it last?

A. Botox Cosmetic lasts up to four months.

Q: Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

A. Although the results are dramatic, a treatment with Botox Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had work done." The muscle activity that causes the lines to form is simply reduced, so you can frown, smile, or look surprised without the creases and wrinkles.

Q: Are there any side effects?

A. It's unlikely that you'll develop any significant side effects, but you may notice slight bruising where Botox Cosmetic was injected. This is only temporary and can be covered by makeup. Rare side effects include headache, respiratory infection, flu-like symptoms, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea.

Q: How is price determined?

A. The price depends on the number of Botox Cosmetic units that are injected into the treated area. A typical treatment of frown lines, for instance, requires 20 units of Botox Cosmetic.

Q: What is your price per area?

A. Since everyone is different, the prices per area may vary - they always depend on the number of Botox Cosmetic units injected into the area. This is determined during your consultation.

Q: Who does the injecting?

A. Eva Unell, registered nurse, and is experienced and trained in administering Botox Cosmetic and dermal fillers.

Q: Do men use Botox Cosmetic?

A. A man who has pronounced lines between his brows may be perceived as angry or stressed - and he doesn't want to look that way. That's why it's not surprising that men are also choosing Botox Cosmetic, a non-surgical administered treatment.

Important Safety Information:

  • Botox Cosmetic is contraindicated in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation.

  • Serious and/or immediate hypersensitivity reactions have been rarely reported. These reactions include anaphylaxis, urticaria, soft tissue edema, and dyspnea. If such a reaction occurs, further Botox Cosmetic injection should be discontinued and appropriate medical therapy immediately instituted.

  • Patients with neuromuscular disorders may be at increased risk of clinically significant systemic effects including severe dyphagia (swallowing difficulties) and respiratory compromise from typical doses of Botox Cosmetic.

  • Woman who are pregnant or nursing should not use Botox Cosmetic.

Juvederm:

Q: What is JUVEDERM?

A: Juvederm is a non-surgical, smooth consistency gel dermal filler that helps to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds like your deeper "smile lines". Juvederm temporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face and is often used as a lip enhancement.

Q: How is JUVEDERM used?

A. Juvederm is injected into areas of facial tissue using a fine needle. Our skillful injector eases Juvederm under the skin to add facial volume and diminish the appearance of wrinkles, scars, and nasolabial folds instantly.

Q: How does JUVEDERM work?

A. While there are a variety of hyaluronic acid fillers, Juvederm is uniquely formulated. A next generation Hyaluronic Acid filler, Juvederm uses a manufacturing process called HYLACROSS™ technology. HYLACROSS™ gives Juvederm its special smooth-gel structure that holds up over time. That's why Juvederm is the first smooth-consistency HA gel and the only Hyaluronic Acid filler that is FDA approved to last up to one year with only one treatment.

Q: How is JUVEDERM different than BOTOX cosmetic?

A. Juvederm injectable gel is a "next-generation" hyaluronic acid dermal filler that provides volume and is used to treat wrinkles and folds resulting from a loss of volume beneath the surface of the skin. Botox Cosmetic is not a filler. Botox Cosmetic relaxes muscle activity and is used to treat moderate to severe lines caused by facial expressions.

Q: When will I start to see results?

A. You will see a visible improvement immediately after treatment. Our injector will work with you on an individual basis to achieve the most desirable, natural looking results. The full results are gauged after about 2 weeks.

Q: How long will the results last?

A. Juvederm is the ONLY Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler FDA approved to last up to one year.

Q: Does the correction last forever?

A. No. Correction is temporary; therefore, touch-up injections as well as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal long lasting results.

Q: What are the possible side effects of JUVEDERM?

A. Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is typically not long lasting. The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures there is a risk of infection.

Q: Can people with different skin tones be treated with JUVEDERM?

A. Yes. In fact, Juvederm injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Studies with Juvederm showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.

Q: What should be done prior to treatment?

A. Avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil for 7 days before your treatment. These medications can increase bleeding or bruising at the injection site. Avoid alcoholic beverages and working out 24 hours prior to treatment.

Q: What should I do immediately after treatment?

A. Refrain from vigorous exercise, alcohol, or heat exposure until the following day, other than that you can return to your normal activities.

Q: How do I treat bruising after my treatment?

A: Arnica Montana is a natural supplement that aids in healing bruising and can be taken before and after treatment. Fresh Pineapple contains bromelin which is useful in healing bruising. You can eat pineapple before and after treatment. Ice is also beneficial as recommended.

Post-treatment Considerations

Your healthcare professional will tell you what to expect following treatment with Juvederm injectable gel. You should ask your healthcare professional when makeup may be applied after your treatment. Makeup is considered "dirty" and we want to keep the area as clean as. possible for at least 12-24 hours.

You should avoid the following for at least 24 hours after treatment:

  • Strenuous exercise

  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages

  • Extended exposure to sun or heat

  • Exposure to any of the above may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites. If there is swelling, you may need to place an ice pack over the swollen area. Be sure to report any redness and/or visible swelling that lasts for more than a few days or any other symptoms that cause you concern to your healthcare professional.

Other Considerations:

  • Patients who are using substances that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, as with any injection, may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the injection site. You should inform your healthcare professional before treatment if you are using these types of substances.

  • If laser treatment, chemical peeling, or any other procedure based on active dermal response is considered after treatment with Juvederm injectable gel, there is a possible risk of an inflammatory reaction at the treatment site.

  • Juvederm injectable gel should be used with caution in patients on immunosuppressive therapy, or therapy used to decrease the body's immune response, as there may be an increased risk of infection.

  • Women who are pregnant or nursing should not be treated with Juvederm.

Juvederm Voluma

Q: What is Voluma?

A: Voluma, also know as Juvederm Voluma™ by Allergan, is the newest facial filler to hit the US markets.  It was approved by the FDA in October 2013.  Voluma is a Hylauronic Acid filler that is used to create a smoother contour to your mid face giving you a more youthful and natural appearance. RR Aesthetics is one of the 1st offices in Beverly Hills to start offering this new filler.

Q: What is Voluma used for?

A: Voluma is a bit different then your typical Hylauronic Acid. Voluma is injected using a different concept when it comes to facial fillers. It is placed in the mid face to help support areas of volume loss and to restore facial contours that have diminished due to age.  By supporting the mid-face you can also see improvements that can take place in the lower face and jaw line. It helps to “lift” without the need for surgery.

Q: What makes Voluma different from other facial fillers?

A: Voluma is similar to Restylane, Juvederm, and Belotero as they are all hylauronic acid gels but the injection technique and placement for Voluma differs from these other fillers.  When injecting Voluma, your injection specialist needs to look at the Ogee Curve to determine what’s best for each patient.  Voluma is the 1st and only filler on the market to be approved by the FDA for age related volume loss in the mid-face.

Q: How long does Voluma last?

A: One unique property of Voluma is the Vycross ™ technology. Vycross™ produces an efficiently and tightly cross-linked gel, which contributes to it’s lift capacity and the duration of the product. This allows Voluma, after optimal treatment, to last for up to 2 years.

Q: What is recovery like?

A: As with any injection, swelling and bruising are the main concerns. If a bruise does occur, it can last anywhere from 3-10 days. We suggest you avoid certain over the counter medications and vitamins before coming your treatment.

Q: What If I don’t like my Voluma injections?

A: One of the best things about Voluma, and other Hylauronic Acid fillers, is that they can be removed.  There is an enzyme that “dissolves” the HA , which essentially removes the product from your body. This process usually spans over several office appointments to make sure we achieve the desired removal results.  We here at RR Aesthetics have a ‘Less is more’ philosophy and specialize in removing product from a patients that have been overfilled.

Kybella

Q: HOW DOES IT WORK?

A: Kybella is comprised of deoxycholic acid, which breaks down and absorbs dietary fat. When Kybella shots are injected into subcutaneous fat, the underlying fat cells are destroyed and cannot rejuvenate.

Q: HOW IS IT ADMINISTERED?

A: Kybella chin reduction is injected subcutaneously using an area-adjusted dose. One treatment can consist of up to 50 tiny injections. Because the procedure relies on the natural process of fat breakdown, typically 2-3 treatments may be needed spaced six weeks apart.

Q: WHO IS A CANDIDATE?

A: Anyone over 18, in good health with moderate-to-severe submental fat can reap the benefits of this aesthetic treatment. If your chin has a twin, and you’d like to improve its appearance without the risk of surgery – you’re the perfect choice for this exciting new procedure.

Q: IS IT PAINFUL?

A: Pain is always relative, but most patients report only mild discomfort at the beginning of the procedure that subsides as the treatment progresses. Most people find an over-the-counter pain reliever is adequate to relieve any discomfort post-procedure. During subsequent treatment sessions, the level of discomfort lessens with the majority of patients.

Q: Are Kybella injections painful?

A: Kybella is an easy procedure with little pain or discomfort. Ice will be used to numb the area prior to injection. Immediately after the injections some patients describe a hot and uncomfortable feeling that subsides within minutes. During this portion we have you remain in the office with ice packs to help ease this feeling of discomfort. Patients say that the first 15 minutes of the treatment is a little uncomfortable but in general it is well tolerated by all of our patients. We are here to assure you that we will make you as comfortable as possible during your treatment here at RR Aesthetics.

Q: How long is a Kybella treatment?

A: First time patients are given 1 hour in the office so that they can ask questions, get specifics about the Kybella treatment and numb the treatment area using ice before starting. The actual injection portion of the treatment takes less than 5 minutes and is well tolerated.

Q: How many Kybella treatments do I need to see results?

A: The number of treatments depends on several factors specific to the individual. Treatments are spaced 6 weeks apart and can range from 3-6 treatment sessions depending on the fullness of the area. We suggest scheduling a consultation with Eva to discuss a treatment plan

Q: WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

A: Most patients see noticeable results after a series of 2-3 treatment sessions. The number

of treatments required will depend on the amount of fat being eradicated.

Q: How long do results from Kybella injections last?

A: After you have your series of Kybella treatment (2-6 sessions spaced about 6 weeks apart) and have achieved your desired result, you will not need further injections. While Kybella does not remove every fat cell, it does drastically reduce and remove the cells that you are targeting and these cells will not return.

Q: What do I do if I gain weight after using Kybella?

A: We use Kybella to target the fat cells underneath you chin. We know that Kybella does not remove every fat cell but it drastically reduces and removes the cells that you were targeting for your desired results. The fat cells that remain underneath your chin after you achieve your desired results can be affected by weight gain but since you drastically reduced the number of fat cells present you should see very little change in the area if you gain weight.

Q: HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

A: Once your aesthetic goal has been reached, there is no need for further treatment. When Kybella kills those fat cells, they are gone for good!

Q: IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?

A: Kybella recovery is usually quick and uneventful. At most, patients report some minor bruising and swelling that resolves within several days. Mild discomfort may be experienced at the injection sites but is easily treated with OTC pain relievers. Some patients jump right back into their routine while others prefer to lay low for a couple of days after the procedure.

Q: HOW MUCH DOES KYBELLA COST?

A: Kybella price depends on how many injections are required for your treatment. In general, most patients require 2-3 treatment sessions to obtain optimum results

Q: WHO SHOULDN'T GET THIS TREATMENT?

A: Check with your physician if you are taking blood thinners before considering Kybella for double chin treatment. Caution should also be used if you’ve had prior surgery in the treatment area. If you have an active infection at the injection site, you must wait until it clears. Anyone who is pregnant or nursing is ineligible for the procedure. Those with a history of dysphagia (trouble swallowing) are not suitable candidates for Kybella.

Q: WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL COMPLICATIONS?

A: Because of the location close to certain anatomic structures, there is a risk of tissue or nerve damage caused by the injections. This could cause temporary facial muscle weakness or an off-balance smile.

Microneedling

Q: What Is Medical Micro-Needling?

A: It is a skin treatment procedure that involves an electric skin-needling device. The device contains 12 very fine needles. It is used during micro-needling procedures to break down old scar tissue and push skin cell generation. Cell production leads to the creation of new layers of elastin and collagen fiber and leads to improved blood flow in the skin.

Q: How Does Medical Micro-Needling Work?

A: The device slides along the skin and penetrates upper layers of the skin to a depth of up to 2mm to create tiny needle wounds. This signals the body to respond by producing collagen and elastin fibers. As a result, the skin becomes fuller, thus reducing the appearance of scars, lines, and wrinkles.

Q: What Conditions Can Be Treated Or Improved With Medical Micro-Needling?

A: Some of the conditions that micro-needling is known to improve include: mild to moderate acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, skin texture and pore size, melasma, hyperpigmentation and stretch marks

Q: What Will I Look Like After The Treatment?

A: Most people will notice redness and mild swelling similar to slight sunburn for 24-48 hours and there may be slight pinpoint bleeding and/or bruising. Skin will be noticeably smoother and more radiant within a week or two. Full results will take a few months to appear.

Q: What Does The Procedure Involve?

A: It begins numbing the skin. We recommend you come to your appointment 30 minutes earlier than scheduled to apply the topical numbing to ensure the most comfortable treatment possible. When adding PRP  to your treatment(plasma rich protein), a small

amount of blood is drawn while you are numbing. This tube of blood is than spun in a centrifuge for approximately 10 minutes to separate the PRP. The face is then thoroughly cleansed. A small pen with 12 tiny needles is used to create tiny wounds in the skin. The speed and adjustability of the needles allows for more effective piercing and absorption of skin products. Hyaluronic acid gel, growth factors, or/and PRP are massaged into the skin after each section is micro-needled so that it can penetrate the skin and initiate the healing process.

Q: What Is The Down Time After Medical Micro-Needling Treatment?

A: Inflammation of the skin is very temporary and reduces greatly within a few hours. It may remain pink or red for up to 48 -72 hours after treatment depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment, . Using hyaluronic acid after the procedure can help reduce inflammation. No makeup use is recommended for 48 hours post treatment.

Q: Can I get micro-needling if I am pregnant or nursing?

A: No. Micro-needling should not be done when pregnant or nursing
